The driver attempted to cross a river using the vehicle’s “Wade Mode,” only to end up stranded in deep mud, requiring a rescue from the California Highway Patrol.
“Wade Mode,” a feature touted by Tesla, raises the Cybertruck’s suspension and pressurizes the battery system to prepare the vehicle for shallow water traversal. The feature drew attention after Musk claimed the Cybertruck could “serve briefly as a boat,” capable of crossing rivers and lakes if needed. However, the manufacturer’s warranty explicitly excludes coverage for water-related damage, and automotive experts have repeatedly cautioned that the feature has strict limitations.
