In a tragic incident in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, a camel fatally attacked its owner after being left tethered under the scorching sun for an entire day. The event unfolded on May 21, 2016, during a severe heatwave that saw temperatures soar to 43 degrees Celsius.
The owner, identified as Urjaram from Mangta village, had tied the camel’s legs and left it outside while he entertained guests at his residence. Upon realizing his oversight later that evening, he approached the animal to untie it. However, the camel, agitated from the prolonged exposure and restraint, attacked him violently. According to eyewitness Thakara Ram, the camel lifted Urjaram by the neck, threw him to the ground, and proceeded to bite and sever his head .
The aftermath of the attack was equally harrowing. It reportedly took over 25 villagers approximately six hours to subdue the enraged animal. Some villagers noted that the camel had exhibited aggressive behavior towards Urjaram in the past, suggesting a history of mistreatment or neglect .
This incident underscores the potential dangers of neglecting animal welfare, especially under extreme environmental conditions. Camels, while generally known for their resilience in arid climates, can become unpredictable and aggressive when subjected to prolonged stress or mistreatment.
